How to Measure Your Barn for Stalls
The numbers to bring your dealer — stall size, opening width, aisle clearance, run length, and ceiling height.
Get these numbers before you call your dealer.
Stall size. Most full-size horses do well in a 12x12 stall. Ponies can go 10x10; draft horses and foaling stalls want more room (foaling stalls are often 14x14 or larger). A stall that's too small raises the risk of a cast horse.
Opening width. Standard door openings on our fronts run about 42–46 inches between posts. Make sure your aisle and equipment fit.
Aisle width. Sliding doors need only the front's run; hinged doors need room to swing — measure for the door plus clearance, doubled if stalls face each other.
Length to fill. Our fronts and dividers come in 10, 12, and 14-foot lengths (actual lengths run slightly under to leave room for connectors), or custom. Measure wall-to-wall and note any out-of-square walls — our wall-mount brackets adjust half an inch to three inches to take up the difference.
Ceiling height. Fronts stand around 7 feet (84 inches); confirm clearance, especially under lofts.
Bring those measurements and a rough sketch to your dealer and we'll build to fit.
